Mc Donagh's
The Mc Donaghs are one of Galway's most entrepreneurial families, in charge of several hotels and this spot, a longtime town landmark. After a major renovation, it's now partly a fish-and-chips bar and partly a "real" fish restaurant. If you've yet to try fish-and-chips, this is the place to start: cod, whiting, mackerel, haddock, or hake is deep-fried in a light batter while you watch, and served with a heap of freshly cooked chips (French fries). Or try Galway oysters au naturel, or a bowl of mussels steamed in wine and garlic.
Matted in forest green and framed beautifully in black or cherry wood.
